| Renée (Hollowell) Gandy, born in 1952,
is native of Oxford, Mississippi. After many years traveling she returned to settle not far
from here in the late 1980's. I have no formal training in art but do have a degree in science and nursing yet no longer work in this field. In my nursing career I worked in many areas from working as psychiatric nurse on a locked unit at the VA Hospital to the ER to labor and delivery.I retired from nursing in 1994 upon learning I was expecting a child in my mid 40's.This life changing experience led to a rekindling of my artistic interest as I once again begin my independent in art history. I had a leaning toward creative writing in my youth and now find that I can now express the same feelings and expressions through my art. It is still a visual message only a different vehicle. My art is an exploration of colors and brushstrokes and the interaction of the two. I often utilize two complementary colors or a triadic color scheme in order to evoke a particular mood. My art is often stylized, abstracted and presented in an emotional form through color and kinetic brushstrokes. I work predominately in oils but do venture into the acrylic and pastel mediums from time to time. I classify myself as an expressionist because whether it is a pure abstract, a landscape or a still life it will be created from my own personal emotions and reaction to the painting process. My love of the Fauvists springs from their wild emotional use of color and form. |
